317L Stainless Steel Tubing

Similar in composition to 316L and 304L, alloy 317L is an austenitic molybdenum, chromium, nickel stainless alloy. Due to the higher moly content, 317L provides enhanced resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking particularly in chloride or halide-rich environments. 317L has higher creep, stress-to-rupture, and tensile strength than its 316L and 304L counterparts which makes it a great solution to demanding applications found offshore, in pulp & paper mills and in chemical processing plants.

Fabrication

The low carbon content provides resistance to intergranular corrosion and superior weldability over 316. 317L can be hardened by cold working as opposed to heat treating.

Industry Applications

Chemical Process
Alloy 317L is well suited for handling acid dyestuffs in textile equipment in the chemical processing environments.
Fabrication
317/L tubing is used in equipment exposed to acetylating and nitrating mixtures and bleaching solutions in fabrication.
Food & Beverage
317L is commonly used in the food processing industry because of its resistance to acetic, citric, formic and tartaric acids.
Oil & Gas
317L is a great choice for severe oil and gas applications, such as fluid catalytic cracking where high cyanide levels require additional corrosion resistance that 304/L cannot provide.
Power Generation
Power generation applications that require alloy 317L include power plant desulphurization and condensers.
Pulp & Paper
317/L is used in several pulp and paper processes where bleaching solutions are present.
